Ok, so a few things have been happening with Orange Dot, for a new company this has been a whirlwind year so far. In an effort to keep everyone up to date, we have decided to start this new website.
For those of you who haven’t heard of Orange Dot, we’re a young mobile technology company and we’re working on some projects in a hope to make mobiles more accessible to people with disabilities. The biggest of which is a new interface for a mobile device that we are working on that focuses on simplicity as the main design element.
As a support worker, working with adults with intellectual disabilities for the last 5 years I have constantly found myself running into an issue many of my clients have been facing trying to access mobile technology. Many of the people I work with are somewhat vulnerable when they are out and about in society, this however doesn’t stop them from wanting to lead active lives.
Early this year I entered my phone concept into the mega 2008 program (Mobile Enterprise Growth Alliance) which unfortunately wasn’t being offered in my home state of QLD, so I ended up finding myself enrolled in the Sydney, NSW program. After 3 months of flying back and forth between states (sometimes twice a week), I found myself standing in front of the likes of Allan Aaron, Jennifer Wilson, Julian Persaud, Mark Neely, Martin Keogh. I had to pitch my invention for a simplified mobile phone interface and how I intend to commercialise on this, I pitched Orange Dot and subsequently was voted best out of the NSW teams.
Orange Dot, being such a fast growing company was always going to quickly outgrow the funding capacities of it founders, so we have spent the last couple of months restructuring the core company, making it investor ready. One of the main recent changes was the induction of a board of directors who I’d like to take the opportunity to publicly welcome to the team as they are now officially on board. I’d like to welcome Shane Williamson, Justin Brow and Nick McIntosh (feel free to check out their bios on this site).
If you’re interested in finding out more about Orange Dot, feel free to e-mail us. We’d love to hear from you.
